Vol. 3 How you can help your child to become more independent
Hello everyone!
Today, I would like to share how you can help your child to become more independent!
There are three tips to make your child independent:
- Show how to do the movement without any words.
- Focus on one thing at the time.
- Analyze the movement.
- Show how to do the movement without any words.
There is a girl, who holds a spoon with her whole hand instead of three fingers.
Her mother has been instructing her daughter to hold it with three fingers but she hasn’t
learned it yet.
One day at the table, the girl was holding a spoon with her whole hand again.
Her mother said,
“ Oh! You are not holding it correctly. Again!”
“ Do you remember how to hold it?”
“ You put your hand at the bottom and put three fingers around.”
“ No! Not that way, this way.”
“ Looks good! Oh, you shouldn’t put this finger this way.”
“ Here we go! Ok Let’s finish our meal.”
Stttooppp!!
This is very confusing for these young children.
Children get confused where to place their attention: your words or your movement.
The movement and the words need to be separated
when you show something to your child.
So in this case, mother says,
“ I would like to show you how to hold the spoon, watch me.”
“………………………………………………….” (No talking while presenting.)
“ I did it. Now it’s your turn.”
And the child will try again to hold the spoon as her mother showed her.”
Please try to show the movement without talking to your child.
Thank you for reading.
